Migrant Haven is more than an organization; we are a community. We believe every migrant deserves to rebuild their life with dignity. By working closely with local partners and supporters, we create environments where you aren’t just welcomed—you are valued and empowered to become an active member of your new community.

Our History

Migrant Haven began in a very simple way. Before it became an organisation, it was a small group of people coming together to support one another through shared experiences.

1

2020– Where It All Began

In 2020, a group of migrants began meeting informally as a way of supporting each other. These were small, friendly gatherings where people could talk openly about their experiences, share advice, and encourage one another. For many, those meetings became a space of peer support. People spoke about the challenges of settling into a new country, navigating unfamiliar systems, and trying to build confidence while starting life again. But they also shared hope, resilience, and ideas for how they could help others going through similar experiences. Those early conversations laid the foundation for what would later become Migrant Haven.

2

2022 – Shaping a Vision

As the group continued to grow, it became clear that the support people were offering one another could reach even more individuals if it was developed into something more structured. In 2022, the group began discussing its strategic priorities and exploring how the informal support network could evolve into a community organisation. The aim was simple: create something that could provide practical support and opportunities for migrants while strengthening community connections. This period involved a lot of listening. People shared their stories, reflected on their experiences, and discussed the kinds of services that would genuinely help migrants navigate life in the UK. These conversations helped shape the direction of the organisation and the kind of work it would focus on in the future.

2024 – Finding the Right Name

By 2024, the vision for the organisation had grown stronger. The next step was finding a name that truly reflected the purpose and spirit of the work. After many discussions and ideas, the name Migrant Haven was chosen. It captured the essence of what the group wanted to create — a welcoming and supportive space where migrants could feel safe, valued, and empowered as they rebuilt their lives. The name reflected both the lived experiences that inspired the organisation and the hope that it could become a place of opportunity and belonging for many others.

4

2025 – Becoming a Constituted Organisation

In 2025, Migrant Haven took an important step forward by becoming a constituted group, following charity governance guidelines. This marked a new chapter in the organisation’s journey, allowing it to operate with clear structures, policies, and a stronger foundation for growth. Formalising the organisation also made it possible to expand programmes, build partnerships, and reach more people who could benefit from the support Migrant Haven offers. Growing Impact Since those early days, Migrant Haven has continued to grow while staying true to its community-led roots. Over the years, the organisation has supported more than 500 individuals through various projects, workshops, community activities, and support initiatives. Every project has been shaped by the voices and experiences of the people we serve. Through conversations, consultations, community discussions, and research, migrants have shared their stories and insights about the challenges they face and the support that can make a real difference. This commitment to listening has ensured that Migrant Haven’s work remains evidence-informed and community-driven. The services we deliver today are built on the lived experiences of migrants themselves, helping ensure that our programmes respond to real needs rather than assumptions. Looking Ahead While Migrant Haven has grown into a recognised community organisation, its core spirit remains the same as those early meetings in 2020 — people coming together, supporting one another, and building confidence and opportunity as a community. As the organisation continues to grow, that same spirit of collaboration, empathy, and shared experience will continue to guide everything we do
