Community Walking Groups – Connecting People and Nature
Migrant Haven launched a series of community walking groups to promote health, wellbeing, and connection.
The idea was simple: bring people together, step outside, and explore local green spaces while encouraging conversation and community connection.
Over the past year, these walks have taken place regularly, with participants joining from different backgrounds and communities. The walks have provided opportunities for people to:
- Connect with nature
- Improve physical wellbeing
- Build friendships
- Explore local parks and green spaces
The project was inspired by the Five Ways to Wellbeing, which emphasise the importance of staying active, connecting with others, and engaging with the world around us.
Participants often describe the walks as refreshing and uplifting. Conversations flow naturally during the walks, and many people have formed friendships through the simple act of walking together.
The success of the walking groups has encouraged Migrant Haven to continue expanding these activities, creating more opportunities for community members to connect with both nature and each other.
